General Director, Alumni/Student Engagement

Alumni/Student Engagement
Alumni/Student Engagement is responsible for the strategy, planning and execution of alumni events, volunteer activities and partnerships with alumni clubs and societies. Engages and supports alumni governance bodies including boards and councils. Develops, conducts, and promotes alumni programs and services to constituents including reunions, travel and tours, speakers, and general activities to enhance involvement opportunities across the alumni network.
Management / Leadership
Manager: The positions work is achieved through the direction of others. Managers have direct accountability for setting goals and using resources. They are responsible for administrative oversight of individuals, including conducting recommendations for hiring and termination, writing evaluations, disciplinary actions, day-to-day oversight as well as long-term goal setting and accountability for the performance and productivity of the employees. Managerial positions are reflected in the M1-M3 career track levels in the management/leadership track.

Director: Directs and controls the activities of multiple university units or leads a team of professionals with significant university wide impact. Typically has indirect reports. In charge of overall control of planning, staffing, budgeting, etc. for the unit. Collaborates with executive leadership on establishing strategic goals across the function.

Position Summary

The General Director for Alumni/Student Engagement is responsible for overseeing and directing the university’s alumni and student engagement strategies, ensuring alignment with the institution's broader advancement goals. This role involves the development and execution of high-level strategies to foster alumni involvement through events, volunteer activities, and partnerships with alumni clubs and societies. The Director ensures that key alumni programs, such as reunions, travel tours, and speaker events, are effectively designed and executed to enhance engagement, strengthen the alumni network, and contribute to the university’s fundraising efforts. As a senior leader, the General Director has full responsibility for the planning, staffing, budgeting, and overall management of alumni engagement activities. This includes directing a team of professionals to implement programs that support both short-term and long-term goals of alumni relations. The Director works closely with executive leadership to set strategic objectives, ensuring alignment across the institution and maximizing the impact of alumni engagement efforts. By fostering strong relationships with alumni governance bodies, including boards and councils, the General Director plays a key role in shaping the future of alumni engagement at the university, driving initiatives that enhance donor stewardship and support the institution’s mission.
