Position Summary

The General Supervisor within Agriculture and Life Sciences plays a key role in overseeing day-to-day operations across various agricultural and environmental facilities, including farms, greenhouses, arboretums, and research centers. This position supports the division’s mission to enhance soil, crop, plant, animal, and environmental resources by ensuring efficient and safe management of sites that contribute to education, research, and community engagement. The Supervisor coordinates facility activities, manages site operations, and ensures that all areas comply with institutional and regulatory standards, while facilitating the integration of academic and outreach programs. This role operates within the General Administration job family and is responsible for supervising a team of experienced administrative, technical, and operational staff. The General Supervisor schedules and monitors daily workflows, ensures proper staffing coverage, and supports staff in the completion of assignments. A significant aspect of this role involves onboarding, training, and orienting new employees, while also developing the technical and professional skills of the team. The supervisor ensures that team operations align with departmental goals and broader institutional priorities related to sustainability, research, and agricultural innovation. As a first-level manager (M1), the General Supervisor provides direct leadership, fostering a collaborative work environment that promotes efficiency, accountability, and professional development. The role includes administrative oversight such as conducting performance evaluations, making hiring and disciplinary recommendations, and guiding staff in achieving long-term goals. This position serves as a liaison between operational teams and higher-level management, ensuring that resources are utilized effectively and that team efforts contribute to the success of Agriculture and Life Sciences initiatives.
