General Supervisor, Entomology

Entomology studies insects and their relationships to humans, the environment, and other organisms. Provides state-of-the-art research on insects, their integral roles in ecosystems, and their effective management to support human health, local and global economies, and sustainable food and water supplies.
Management / Leadership
Manager: The positions work is achieved through the direction of others. Managers have direct accountability for setting goals and using resources. They are responsible for administrative oversight of individuals, including conducting recommendations for hiring and termination, writing evaluations, disciplinary actions, day-to-day oversight as well as long-term goal setting and accountability for the performance and productivity of the employees. Managerial positions are reflected in the M1-M3 career track levels in the management/leadership track.

Supervisor: Supervises experienced administrative, operative, and/or technical roles. Coordinates schedules and workflow for the team. Focuses on team completion of assignments and is responsible for ensuring the orientation and training of employees.

Position Summary

The General Supervisor for Entomology oversees the administrative and operational functions of the entomology department, ensuring the effective management of programs and activities that support insect research, education, and environmental conservation. This role supervises a team of experienced staff, coordinates schedules, and ensures workflows align with departmental goals. The supervisor plays a key role in supporting initiatives that advance research on insect ecosystems, sustainable agriculture, and global food and water security. As a manager at the supervisory level, this position is responsible for onboarding and training employees, evaluating team performance, and fostering a collaborative work environment. The General Supervisor ensures that departmental resources are effectively allocated to meet both short- and long-term objectives while maintaining high standards of productivity and operational efficiency. This role requires a combination of leadership skills, administrative expertise, and familiarity with the entomology field to contribute to the department’s mission of promoting human health and environmental sustainability.
