Extension provides leadership in determining, implementing, and evaluating educational programs which are designed to solve social, economic, and environmental problems in agriculture and natural resources. The agent is an educator, an information provider, a needs assessor, a problem-solving resource for clientele, and networks with the agricultural industry, specialists, extension agents, and agency representatives.
Executive
Executive: The positions work is achieved through the strategic direction of the organization as a whole. Executives have direct accountability for setting strategic goals and using resources. They are responsible for administrative oversight of a senior management area or other business unit with a universitywide scope of impact. These positions contribute to the highest-level panels and teams. The decisions made under the purview of the executive positions duties must routinely have direct impact on success across the university and impact the overall development of the university. Executive positions are reflected in the E1-E3 career track levels in the management/leadership track.
Level 1
Associate Executive: Accountable for annual execution of goals and objectives in area of responsibility; disseminates goals to direct reports and ensures goals are operationalized. Recommends and may approve policy for area of operational and/or functional control. Typically has multiple directors and managers as direct reports. Scope of responsibility is a university wide sub-function with multiple disciplines, or multiple functions within a college or business unit.

Position Summary

The Associate Executive for Extension provides strategic leadership and oversight for university-wide extension programs, focusing on addressing critical social, economic, and environmental challenges in agriculture and natural resources. This role is instrumental in ensuring the effective implementation and evaluation of educational initiatives designed to empower communities, enhance agricultural productivity, and promote sustainable practices. Working closely with directors, managers, and other stakeholders, the Associate Executive establishes programmatic goals and translates them into actionable objectives that align with the institution's mission and broader impact goals. This position involves guiding a diverse portfolio of extension activities, overseeing resource allocation, and fostering partnerships with industry professionals, government agencies, and academic experts. The Associate Executive also plays a key role in policy development, ensuring the extension division operates efficiently and effectively while addressing evolving community needs. By driving innovation, collaboration, and impact-driven solutions, the Associate Executive strengthens the university's commitment to serving as a trusted resource for agricultural education and problem-solving.
