General Manager, Extension

Extension provides leadership in determining, implementing, and evaluating educational programs which are designed to solve social, economic, and environmental problems in agriculture and natural resources. The agent is an educator, an information provider, a needs assessor, a problem-solving resource for clientele, and networks with the agricultural industry, specialists, extension agents, and agency representatives.
Management / Leadership
Manager: The positions work is achieved through the direction of others. Managers have direct accountability for setting goals and using resources. They are responsible for administrative oversight of individuals, including conducting recommendations for hiring and termination, writing evaluations, disciplinary actions, day-to-day oversight as well as long-term goal setting and accountability for the performance and productivity of the employees. Managerial positions are reflected in the M1-M3 career track levels in the management/leadership track.
Level 2
Manager: Responsible for leading a team of professionals and/or support employees. Has full responsibility for team output. Focuses on implementing and executing strategies within their own department or team.

Position Summary

The General Manager for Extension is responsible for overseeing the implementation and execution of strategic goals within the extension programs that focus on solving social, economic, and environmental challenges in agriculture and natural resources. In this managerial role, the General Manager leads a team of professionals and support staff, ensuring that all operations run smoothly and align with the department’s long-term objectives. This includes managing resources, directing program development, and overseeing the execution of community-focused educational initiatives. The General Manager ensures the efficient delivery of extension programs and services to address the needs of diverse stakeholders, including agricultural communities, industry partners, and government agencies. In addition to leading a team, the General Manager is responsible for the administrative oversight of staff, including hiring, performance evaluations, and staff development. The role requires making critical decisions on resource allocation and program priorities, and maintaining accountability for the productivity and success of the department. By collaborating with other leaders in Agriculture and Life Sciences, the General Manager helps to ensure that extension programs are continuously improving and meeting the needs of the communities they serve. This position requires strong leadership, strategic planning, and problem-solving abilities to drive the success of both day-to-day operations and long-term program goals.
