Recreational Sports provides opportunities for students, faculty, and staff to engage in physical activities to create healthy lifestyle habits. Positions are typically involved with open recreation, fitness, aquatics, intramural sports, sport clubs, venture out, and youth programs.
Management / Leadership
Manager: The positions work is achieved through the direction of others. Managers have direct accountability for setting goals and using resources. They are responsible for administrative oversight of individuals, including conducting recommendations for hiring and termination, writing evaluations, disciplinary actions, day-to-day oversight as well as long-term goal setting and accountability for the performance and productivity of the employees. Managerial positions are reflected in the M1-M3 career track levels in the management/leadership track.
Level 3
Director: Directs and controls the activities of multiple university units or leads a team of professionals with significant university wide impact. Typically has indirect reports. In charge of overall control of planning, staffing, budgeting, etc. for the unit. Collaborates with executive leadership on establishing strategic goals across the function.

Position Summary

The General Director for Recreational Sports is responsible for overseeing and guiding the university's recreational sports programs, which serve students, faculty, and staff. This senior leadership role involves directing and controlling the activities of multiple units within the department, including fitness, aquatics, intramural sports, sport clubs, and youth programs. The General Director ensures that these programs contribute to the overall mission of promoting health, wellness, and active lifestyles across the campus community. This position plays a key role in setting strategic goals, planning long-term initiatives, and ensuring that the recreational sports offerings are accessible, engaging, and aligned with the university’s priorities. In addition to overseeing program development and daily operations, The General Director manages the department's budget, staffing, and resources. They work closely with executive leadership to establish and execute university-wide strategic goals and priorities, making key decisions about resource allocation and staffing needs. The General Director provides leadership to a diverse team of professionals, ensuring that staff performance is aligned with departmental objectives. The role also involves fostering partnerships with other university departments, student organizations, and community stakeholders to enhance recreational opportunities. This position requires a strong combination of strategic vision, operational expertise, and leadership skills to ensure the continued success and growth of the recreational sports programs.
