General Manager, Pre-Award

Pre-Award constitutes anything related to grant management prior to the award being received. Pre-award activities typically include finding funding, budget creation, filling out proposal forms, submitting proposal forms, award negotiation and acceptance, and compliance consideration.
Management / Leadership
Manager: The positions work is achieved through the direction of others. Managers have direct accountability for setting goals and using resources. They are responsible for administrative oversight of individuals, including conducting recommendations for hiring and termination, writing evaluations, disciplinary actions, day-to-day oversight as well as long-term goal setting and accountability for the performance and productivity of the employees. Managerial positions are reflected in the M1-M3 career track levels in the management/leadership track.

Position Summary

The General Manager for Pre-Award is responsible for overseeing the strategic planning, implementation, and management of all pre-award activities related to grants and contracts. This position involves leading a team of professionals to ensure that pre-award tasks, including identifying funding opportunities, developing budgets, completing proposal submissions, negotiating awards, and ensuring compliance, are executed effectively. The General Manager will set departmental goals, manage resources, and ensure that the pre-award process is streamlined, accurate, and aligned with organizational objectives. They are accountable for the overall performance of the team and the successful completion of all pre-award activities. In addition to overseeing daily operations, the General Manager for Pre-Award is responsible for long-term planning and execution of strategies within the department. This includes managing staff, conducting performance evaluations, providing mentorship and guidance, and fostering an environment of continuous improvement. They collaborate closely with senior leadership and other departments to align pre-award activities with the broader goals of the organization. By effectively leading and managing the pre-award team, the General Manager ensures that all necessary steps are taken to secure funding, support institutional growth, and maintain compliance with all relevant regulations and sponsor requirements.
