Manager: The positions work is achieved through the direction of others. Managers have direct accountability for setting goals and using resources. They are responsible for administrative oversight of individuals, including conducting recommendations for hiring and termination, writing evaluations, disciplinary actions, day-to-day oversight as well as long-term goal setting and accountability for the performance and productivity of the employees. Managerial positions are reflected in the M1-M3 career track levels in the management/leadership track.
Level 1
Supervisor: Supervises experienced administrative, operative, and/or technical roles. Coordinates schedules and workflow for the team. Focuses on team completion of assignments and is responsible for ensuring the orientation and training of employees.

Position Summary

The General Supervisor of Special Events is responsible for managing and overseeing the day-to-day operations of the special events team within the university. This position supervises a team of event coordinators, administrative staff, and support personnel, ensuring the successful planning, coordination, and execution of a wide range of special events that support the university's strategic goals and enhance engagement with internal and external stakeholders. Key responsibilities include managing event schedules, assigning tasks, and ensuring that events are executed efficiently and within budget. The General Supervisor will oversee the coordination of all event logistics, such as venue selection, catering, vendor management, and staffing, while ensuring events meet university standards and objectives. This role also involves supporting the development and execution of event strategies, ensuring alignment with the university’s mission and goals. The General Supervisor will be responsible for team development, including onboarding, training, and performance management. They will also ensure that the team maintains high standards of professionalism and customer service. The role requires active collaboration with other departments, event stakeholders, and vendors to ensure seamless operations and high-quality event delivery. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills, with the ability to supervise and motivate a team. The General Supervisor will be expected to make decisions quickly, solve problems as they arise, and maintain a focus on continuous improvement in event processes and outcomes. This position plays a vital role in ensuring the successful delivery of events that build community, engagement, and support for the university’s broader strategic initiatives.
