Strategic planners understand and shape the organizations strategy and mission and support leaders in facilitating associated communications and processes.
Management / Leadership
Manager: The positions work is achieved through the direction of others. Managers have direct accountability for setting goals and using resources. They are responsible for administrative oversight of individuals, including conducting recommendations for hiring and termination, writing evaluations, disciplinary actions, day-to-day oversight as well as long-term goal setting and accountability for the performance and productivity of the employees. Managerial positions are reflected in the M1-M3 career track levels in the management/leadership track.

Director: Directs and controls the activities of multiple university units or leads a team of professionals with significant university wide impact. Typically has indirect reports. In charge of overall control of planning, staffing, budgeting, etc. for the unit. Collaborates with executive leadership on establishing strategic goals across the function.

Position Summary

The General Director within Strategic Planning is a leadership position responsible for overseeing the strategic direction and operations of multiple university units, ensuring alignment with the organization’s long-term goals. Operating within Business Operations and Administration, the Director plays a crucial role in the strategic planning, analysis, and management of ongoing operations across colleges and units. The position involves providing reporting and analytics support to inform decision-making, as well as offering project management oversight to ensure the successful execution of the strategic plan. In the area of Strategic Planning, the General Director leads efforts to enhance the university's growth and sustainability through investments in services, equipment, facilities, and human capital. They are instrumental in shaping and communicating the university's strategy, working closely with senior leaders to facilitate the implementation of strategic initiatives across the institution. As a Level 3 Director, the role includes direct oversight of planning, staffing, budgeting, and other key functions within the unit. The Director is responsible for ensuring the effective performance of multiple teams and professionals, setting long-term goals, and holding teams accountable for achieving them. Additionally, the Director collaborates with executive leadership to establish and refine strategic goals, influencing decisions that have a significant university-wide impact. This role requires a high level of management and leadership skills, as well as the ability to drive results through collaboration and strategic resource management.
