Environmental Health and Safety identifies and assesses risks to the health and safety of people in the workplace and the community. Recommends, develops, and administers effective programs to protect occupational health, environmental health, and physical assets of the university. Safely manages hazardous materials, radiation, and biosafety, and minimizes the impact of university operations on natural resources and public health.

Position Summary

The Clinical Supervisor within Environmental Health and Safety at Virginia Tech is responsible for overseeing and supervising the daily operations of the environmental health and safety team. This role ensures the effective management and coordination of various programs designed to protect the health, safety, and well-being of individuals within the university community, as well as minimize the environmental impact of university operations. The Clinical Supervisor leads and supports a team of experienced administrative, operative, and technical staff, ensuring that all activities align with university policies and regulatory requirements related to environmental health, safety, and hazardous materials management. This position involves coordinating the scheduling and workflow of team members, providing guidance on their daily tasks, and ensuring that all employees are trained in the proper safety protocols, regulations, and procedures. The Clinical Supervisor is accountable for ensuring that team members complete assignments efficiently and effectively while maintaining a high standard of safety and compliance. Additionally, this role includes orienting new employees, monitoring performance, and contributing to the development of safety training programs to address emerging risks and regulatory changes. The Clinical Supervisor works closely with senior leadership to assess and identify health and safety risks, making recommendations for improvements or the implementation of new programs. They also collaborate with other departments within Campus Operations to ensure that environmental health and safety considerations are integrated into the broader university operations. This position requires strong communication skills, the ability to manage multiple priorities, and a thorough understanding of safety regulations and best practices in environmental health and safety.
