Environmental Health and Safety identifies and assesses risks to the health and safety of people in the workplace and the community. Recommends, develops, and administers effective programs to protect occupational health, environmental health, and physical assets of the university. Safely manages hazardous materials, radiation, and biosafety, and minimizes the impact of university operations on natural resources and public health.

Position Summary

The Senior Analyst within Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) at Virginia Tech plays a critical role in advancing the university’s environmental health and safety initiatives. This position involves independently analyzing and assessing complex risks to the health and safety of campus populations, with a focus on occupational health, environmental health, hazardous materials, radiation, and biosafety. The Senior Analyst is responsible for developing, recommending, and implementing safety programs that meet both regulatory requirements and the university's goals for safety and sustainability. The Senior Analyst will take a leading role in conducting advanced research, analyzing safety data, and preparing reports that inform decision-making for safety improvements across campus. This position requires a deep understanding of EHS regulations and best practices, as well as the ability to identify potential hazards and propose solutions that mitigate risks. The Senior Analyst may lead projects, collaborate with multiple departments, and provide guidance and support to junior staff. Working independently, the Senior Analyst has significant responsibility for the execution of safety programs, ensuring compliance with both university standards and external regulations. The role also includes providing expertise to influence the development of safety policies and offering technical support on complex issues. This position is vital to maintaining a safe environment and minimizing the impact of the university’s operations on both human health and the surrounding ecosystem.
