General Supervisor, Writing & Editorial

Writing and Editorial collects, prepares, and arranges materials and content for publication. Validates outlines, story content, and written content to ensure it meets requirements and brand standards. Writes communications, publications and reports (e.g., briefing materials, talking points, speeches, scripts, press releases, website material and documents for publication).

Position Summary

The General Supervisor for Writing and Editorial oversees and coordinates a team of writers and editors within the university’s Communications and Marketing department, ensuring the effective development and publication of written content across a variety of platforms. This role involves supervising experienced administrative and technical staff, directing daily operations, managing schedules, and ensuring team members meet deadlines while maintaining high-quality standards. The supervisor will also be responsible for coordinating the workflow of the team, ensuring that all written materials align with the university's strategic communication goals and brand guidelines. In this role, the supervisor will guide the team in the creation of diverse written content, including but not limited to press releases, speeches, articles, website content, and internal publications. The supervisor will work closely with various departments across the university, ensuring content development is consistent, timely, and relevant to key stakeholders, including students, faculty, alumni, and the general public. Additionally, the supervisor will provide oversight in the review and validation of all content, ensuring that written materials are polished, accurate, and aligned with the university’s messaging. The General Supervisor will also play a critical role in the training and development of team members. By mentoring and supporting writers and editors, the supervisor ensures ongoing professional development and fosters a collaborative, efficient team environment. The supervisor will be responsible for setting performance goals, conducting evaluations, and addressing any personnel issues or disciplinary actions. By ensuring that the team is well-equipped to execute assignments and operate at peak productivity, the supervisor will contribute to the overall success of the university's communication and marketing efforts.
