General Supervisor, Finance

Finance is responsible for the financial activities of the university, from transaction processing to complex financial analysis and strategic planning. This typically includes accounting, budgeting, financial forecasting and analysis, tax analysis and compliance, billing and collections, investment management, cash and debt management, and insurance.

Manager: The positions work is achieved through the direction of others. Managers have direct accountability for setting goals and using resources. They are responsible for administrative oversight of individuals, including conducting recommendations for hiring and termination, writing evaluations, disciplinary actions, day-to-day oversight as well as long-term goal setting and accountability for the performance and productivity of the employees. Managerial positions are reflected in the M1-M3 career track levels in the management/leadership track.
Level 1
Supervisor: Supervises experienced administrative, operative, and/or technical roles. Coordinates schedules and workflow for the team. Focuses on team completion of assignments and is responsible for ensuring the orientation and training of employees.

Position Summary

The General Supervisor within Finance is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the daily operations of a team involved in financial activities, such as accounting, budgeting, financial forecasting, analysis, and other related functions. This position ensures that the team completes assigned tasks efficiently and in alignment with the university's financial goals. The General Supervisor is accountable for coordinating schedules, managing workflow, and ensuring that all team members are properly trained and oriented to their roles. In this role, the General Supervisor will guide and support staff by setting clear expectations and goals, monitoring their performance, and providing regular feedback. They are responsible for maintaining productivity and performance standards within the team while ensuring that financial activities are carried out in compliance with applicable policies, procedures, and regulations. The General Supervisor also plays a key role in fostering a positive and collaborative work environment, ensuring team members have the necessary resources to succeed. They will assist with evaluating team performance, conducting disciplinary actions when needed, and supporting the professional development of staff through ongoing coaching and training. Additionally, the supervisor is involved in reporting on team performance and addressing any operational challenges that arise, all while working closely with other departments to ensure alignment with the university's overall financial strategies. Overall, this position combines strong leadership, operational coordination, and expertise in financial processes, ensuring that the team delivers high-quality results in support of the university's financial objectives.
