Database Administration defines standards for how data will be captured, stored, consumed, integrated and managed across the organization. Operates and controls all computing equipment relating to data infrastructure and applications, including servers, mainframes, databases, software, and security measures.

Supervisor: Supervises experienced administrative, operative, and/or technical roles. Coordinates schedules and workflow for the team. Focuses on team completion of assignments and is responsible for ensuring the orientation and training of employees.

Position Summary

The Technical Supervisor in Database Administration is responsible for overseeing the daily operations and performance of the university’s database systems, ensuring the secure and efficient storage, retrieval, and management of critical data. In this role, the Technical Supervisor coordinates the workflow of the database administration team, ensuring that tasks are completed according to established priorities, standards, and deadlines. They provide technical direction and supervision to database administrators and other technical staff, ensuring that they adhere to best practices for data management, system optimization, and security. The Technical Supervisor is also responsible for ensuring that database systems are running smoothly and securely, including overseeing maintenance, troubleshooting, performance monitoring, and capacity planning. This role includes overseeing the implementation of new database technologies and managing upgrades and migrations of existing systems. The supervisor is expected to resolve complex issues, provide guidance to team members, and ensure that the database infrastructure aligns with the university’s data management policies and regulatory requirements. Additionally, they are responsible for maintaining system availability and data integrity while minimizing downtime and optimizing database performance. In addition to their technical leadership, the Technical Supervisor will be involved in managing and developing their team by providing training, mentoring, and support for junior staff members. They will ensure that team members are kept up to date with the latest database technologies, techniques, and best practices. By fostering a collaborative and productive team environment, the supervisor will help ensure that the database administration team efficiently supports the university’s mission and operations. This position is critical in ensuring that the database infrastructure operates seamlessly, supports the university’s data-driven initiatives, and contributes to the effective and secure management of institutional data.
