Position Summary

The Technical Manager of Database Administration provides leadership and oversight for the university’s database infrastructure, ensuring the reliable, secure, and efficient management of institutional data. This role is responsible for defining and maintaining standards for how data is captured, stored, integrated, and accessed across systems, ensuring alignment with university policies and best practices. The manager oversees daily operations, system performance, and data integrity while implementing strategies that support both short-term and long-term institutional data needs. In this position, the manager leads a team of database administrators and technical professionals responsible for maintaining enterprise databases, ensuring high availability, security, and optimal performance. They oversee database design, configuration, patching, backup and recovery processes, and compliance with data governance and cybersecurity standards. The role also involves close collaboration with application developers, IT security, and data management teams to support application integration, troubleshoot complex issues, and implement new technologies that enhance data accessibility and operational efficiency. As a key leadership figure within the Information Technology unit, the Technical Manager is responsible for setting team goals, managing departmental resources, and ensuring team members are trained and equipped to meet evolving demands. The manager participates in strategic planning efforts related to database infrastructure and technology modernization, while aligning with broader university initiatives. Their efforts are critical to enabling data-driven decision-making, supporting academic and administrative systems, and ensuring the university’s data assets remain secure, scalable, and responsive to institutional needs.
