Data Management is responsible for the practice of collecting, keeping, and using data securely, efficiently, and cost-effectively. The goal of data management is to help faculty, staff, students, and the university optimize the use of data within the bounds of policy and regulation.
Management / Leadership
Manager: The positions work is achieved through the direction of others. Managers have direct accountability for setting goals and using resources. They are responsible for administrative oversight of individuals, including conducting recommendations for hiring and termination, writing evaluations, disciplinary actions, day-to-day oversight as well as long-term goal setting and accountability for the performance and productivity of the employees. Managerial positions are reflected in the M1-M3 career track levels in the management/leadership track.
Level 1
Supervisor: Supervises experienced administrative, operative, and/or technical roles. Coordinates schedules and workflow for the team. Focuses on team completion of assignments and is responsible for ensuring the orientation and training of employees.
T - Technical/STEM
Technical roles, including technology and research.

Position Summary

The Technical Supervisor in Data Management is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the data management team, ensuring efficient and secure data collection, storage, and usage across the university. This role involves supervising experienced technical and administrative staff to manage data infrastructure and ensure optimal performance of systems that support the collection, storage, and analysis of data. The Technical Supervisor coordinates workflows, sets priorities, and ensures that the team meets operational goals in accordance with university policies and data management best practices. In addition to supervising staff, the Technical Supervisor is accountable for the team’s adherence to data security and privacy protocols, ensuring compliance with university regulations and industry standards. This role includes overseeing the implementation of data management processes and technologies, assisting in the integration of new tools and systems, and identifying opportunities for process improvement. The supervisor also plays a key role in troubleshooting and resolving technical issues, providing support to team members, and ensuring that any issues affecting data management systems are addressed promptly to minimize downtime. The Technical Supervisor works closely with both technical and non-technical teams to ensure alignment of data management practices with organizational goals. This position is responsible for ensuring that staff are trained and have the necessary resources to carry out their work effectively. By providing leadership, guidance, and mentorship, the Technical Supervisor ensures that the data management team works efficiently and collaborates effectively with other departments, contributing to the university’s data-driven decision-making and operational success. The supervisor also plays an essential role in evaluating team performance and fostering an environment of continuous improvement.
