In charge of overall control of planning, staffing, budgeting, etc. for the unit. Collaborates with executive leadership on establishing strategic goals across the function.

Position Summary

The Technical Director within Enterprise Architecture provides strategic and operational leadership in designing and governing enterprise architecture solutions that support university-wide technology initiatives. This role ensures that all architecture efforts—including infrastructure, application, data, and integration architectures—are aligned with institutional goals and the overall IT strategy. The director plays a key role in modernizing technology platforms, enhancing interoperability, and fostering a secure, scalable, and efficient IT environment through the adoption of emerging technologies and innovative architectural practices. As a senior leader within the Information Technology organization, the Technical Director guides the development of enterprise architecture standards and frameworks while working closely with stakeholders across administrative and academic units. The role oversees complex architectural assessments, solution evaluations, and roadmap development to ensure consistent alignment with the university’s enterprise vision. In collaboration with other technical leaders, this position helps drive the transition from legacy systems to modern solutions, supports data governance and cybersecurity initiatives, and provides direction for cross-functional technical teams. Operating at the M3 level, the Technical Director leads a team of architects and technical professionals, providing both managerial and technical oversight. This includes setting departmental goals, managing staffing and resource allocation, and ensuring high performance and productivity within the team. The director participates in strategic planning efforts with executive leadership and is responsible for budget planning, policy development, and performance evaluation within the enterprise architecture function. Through visionary leadership and deep technical expertise, the Technical Director ensures that the university’s IT architecture is future-ready and aligned with its academic and operational mission.
