In charge of overall control of planning, staffing, budgeting, etc. for the unit. Collaborates with executive leadership on establishing strategic goals across the function.

Position Summary

The Technical Director within Instructional Design is responsible for overseeing the design, development, and delivery of advanced educational technologies and instructional materials that support the university’s educational goals. In this role, the director leads a team of instructional designers, technology specialists, and other key personnel to deliver innovative learning solutions that integrate the latest technologies and pedagogical practices. The director ensures that all instructional materials and systems are aligned with the institution's strategic goals, enhancing the effectiveness of online and face-to-face learning experiences. As a leader, the Technical Director is responsible for the management and strategic direction of instructional design projects, overseeing the planning, execution, and evaluation of large-scale initiatives. This role involves collaborating with senior leadership to establish and implement strategic goals for instructional design, ensuring that resources are effectively allocated and that projects meet deadlines and quality standards. The director is also responsible for managing budgets, setting performance expectations, and overseeing the professional development of team members. They provide mentorship and leadership, ensuring that the team is equipped with the tools and knowledge to succeed in a rapidly changing technological landscape. The Technical Director also plays a key role in shaping the future of instructional design at the institution by researching emerging trends and technologies, and identifying new opportunities to enhance the learning experience. This includes evaluating new instructional technologies, systems, and platforms to determine their potential for adoption. The director works closely with other university units, such as IT Learning and Training and business management, to ensure seamless integration of instructional design efforts with other academic and administrative systems. Their work has a broad, university-wide impact, influencing the overall effectiveness of educational initiatives and shaping the future of teaching and learning at the institution.
