Position Summary

The Technical Manager within Computational Science is responsible for overseeing a team of professionals within the university’s Research Computing and Computational Science departments, ensuring the effective implementation and execution of strategies that enhance the institution's computational capabilities. The role involves leading initiatives focused on optimizing the university’s research computing infrastructure and advancing the development of advanced computing systems that support complex academic and research needs. The manager will provide guidance on designing, integrating, and maintaining high-performance computing systems, data management tools, and associated technologies, ensuring they meet the research demands of faculty, staff, and collaborators across various disciplines. In addition to technical oversight, the Technical Manager is responsible for setting and executing long-term goals within the department. This includes managing the resources and workflows required to implement cutting-edge solutions that improve computational efficiency, data storage, and management. The manager will lead the team in identifying new technologies, improving system performance, and ensuring all infrastructure aligns with the strategic goals of research computing. They will also collaborate with other leaders across IT, research, and academic departments to align the department’s objectives with university-wide initiatives. The Technical Manager is accountable for day-to-day team operations, including performance management, hiring, training, and providing guidance and mentorship to junior team members. They will monitor team output, ensure continuous professional development, and oversee the successful execution of projects within set deadlines. The manager will foster a collaborative environment that encourages innovation and technical excellence while maintaining a focus on delivering high-quality support for research computing needs. As a leader in computational science, the manager will ensure the team stays at the forefront of technological advancements, contributing to the university’s research excellence.
