Equity and Accessibility provides consultation to faculty, staff, and students on matters relating to the universitys policies prohibiting discrimination and harassment. Responsible for determining reasonable accommodations in university programs and coordinating accommodations services like note taking, alternate text requests, and furniture coordination.

Position Summary

The Academic Coordinator within Equity and Accessibility plays a crucial role in ensuring that all university programs and services are accessible to students, faculty, and staff in accordance with university policies and legal requirements regarding discrimination, harassment, and accessibility. The position involves coordinating reasonable accommodations for individuals with disabilities, including facilitating services like note-taking, alternate text requests, and arranging specialized furniture or technology. The Academic Coordinator supports the ongoing development and implementation of accessibility policies to ensure that academic content and resources are inclusive for all members of the university community. Working collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students, the Academic Coordinator provides consultation on matters related to the university’s accessibility policies. The role includes supporting students and faculty in identifying appropriate accommodations, assisting in the design of accessible course materials, and ensuring that all aspects of university programs meet accessibility standards. The coordinator also works to raise awareness about the importance of accessibility and equity, and may assist in organizing training sessions or workshops to educate the campus community about these vital issues. As an individual contributor, the Academic Coordinator works under general supervision, contributing to the efficiency and success of the Equity and Accessibility department by overseeing the coordination of accommodations services. While the position requires some degree of autonomy, it also relies on effective communication and teamwork with other departments, faculty, and students. The role ensures that students’ academic needs are met and that the university’s commitment to equity, inclusion, and accessibility is upheld across all academic and student-facing functions.
