General Director, Equity & Accessibility

Equity and Accessibility provides consultation to faculty, staff, and students on matters relating to the universitys policies prohibiting discrimination and harassment. Responsible for determining reasonable accommodations in university programs and coordinating accommodations services like note taking, alternate text requests, and furniture coordination.
Management / Leadership
Manager: The positions work is achieved through the direction of others. Managers have direct accountability for setting goals and using resources. They are responsible for administrative oversight of individuals, including conducting recommendations for hiring and termination, writing evaluations, disciplinary actions, day-to-day oversight as well as long-term goal setting and accountability for the performance and productivity of the employees. Managerial positions are reflected in the M1-M3 career track levels in the management/leadership track.
Level 3
Director: Directs and controls the activities of multiple university units or leads a team of professionals with significant university wide impact. Typically has indirect reports. In charge of overall control of planning, staffing, budgeting, etc. for the unit. Collaborates with executive leadership on establishing strategic goals across the function.

Position Summary

The General Director within Equity and Accessibility is responsible for overseeing the university’s comprehensive strategy and operations related to equity, accessibility, and compliance. This leadership role involves managing multiple units within the university, ensuring the institution adheres to all relevant laws and policies regarding discrimination, harassment, and reasonable accommodations. The Director leads efforts to create a university-wide culture of inclusion and accessibility, working closely with faculty, staff, and students to promote an environment free from discrimination and barriers to access. The Director is also accountable for strategic planning and long-term goals, which include fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion across university programs and services. In this role, the General Director has a significant influence on policy development, coordination, and operational management of accommodation services. They lead a team of managers and professionals responsible for determining and implementing reasonable accommodations for students, faculty, and staff with disabilities, ensuring the accessibility of university programs, and addressing any complaints or issues related to discrimination and accessibility. The Director is also responsible for the efficient management of budgets, staffing, and resource allocation to meet university goals, working collaboratively with other departments and external agencies to ensure the university complies with federal, state, and institutional standards. The General Director works closely with senior leadership to develop and execute strategic initiatives, ensuring that equity and accessibility remain integral to the university’s mission and operations. They collaborate on the creation of policies and practices that advance the university’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, while also providing guidance and oversight to ensure these policies are effectively implemented across various units. With a focus on both compliance and proactive inclusion, the General Director plays a crucial role in shaping a university environment that supports the success and well-being of all its members, regardless of background or ability.
