Collections maintains and manages collections with regard to storage and accessibility of materials which may include special or historical collections. Responsibilities include labeling, shelf preparation activities, bindery operations and associated vendor relationships, material transfers and associated records updates, space and equipment needs, and associated budgetary considerations.

Position Summary

The Senior Academic Coordinator within Collections plays a crucial role in overseeing the organization, management, and accessibility of library materials, including special or historical collections. This individual is responsible for coordinating the storage, labeling, and shelf preparation of materials to ensure efficient access and preservation. Working closely with vendors and other stakeholders, the coordinator helps manage bindery operations, material transfers, and the updating of records related to these collections. In addition, they assess and coordinate the space and equipment needs for the collection, working to optimize the physical environment to support the integrity and accessibility of library resources. In this role, the Senior Academic Coordinator is expected to act independently, utilizing their advanced knowledge and experience to make informed decisions about collection management practices. They collaborate with colleagues within Library Services to ensure that academic collections are curated and maintained in a way that supports the university’s teaching, learning, and research objectives. This includes overseeing budgetary considerations related to the collection, managing resource allocation for preservation and equipment needs, and ensuring that collection management activities are aligned with academic goals. They also contribute to the development of long-term strategies for enhancing the efficiency and impact of collection management. As an individual contributor, the Senior Academic Coordinator provides leadership within the Collections team, coordinating various activities and ensuring that the department's work aligns with university standards and expectations. While working independently, they also influence and support colleagues by providing guidance on best practices, troubleshooting challenges, and reviewing workflows. The position requires a high level of autonomy, with the individual being a subject matter expert on collection management and contributing to continuous improvement in the accessibility and preservation of library materials.
