Collections maintains and manages collections with regard to storage and accessibility of materials which may include special or historical collections. Responsibilities include labeling, shelf preparation activities, bindery operations and associated vendor relationships, material transfers and associated records updates, space and equipment needs, and associated budgetary considerations.
Management / Leadership
Manager: The positions work is achieved through the direction of others. Managers have direct accountability for setting goals and using resources. They are responsible for administrative oversight of individuals, including conducting recommendations for hiring and termination, writing evaluations, disciplinary actions, day-to-day oversight as well as long-term goal setting and accountability for the performance and productivity of the employees. Position Summary

The General Supervisor within Collections is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations and staff involved in maintaining and managing library collections. Working within Library Services, this role supports the organization’s mission to enhance academic teaching, learning, and research through the effective stewardship of physical and digital materials. The supervisor ensures that collections are properly organized, stored, and accessible, with a focus on quality control and efficient workflows to support scholarly use and preservation needs. This supervisory role manages activities such as labeling, shelf preparation, bindery operations, material transfers, and vendor coordination. The General Supervisor ensures that records are accurately maintained and updates are consistently implemented across systems. Additionally, this role monitors space utilization, equipment needs, and contributes to budget planning for collection-related expenditures. Through hands-on oversight and strategic organization, the supervisor supports the integrity, accessibility, and long-term sustainability of special and general collections. As a Level 1 Manager within the General Administration track, the General Supervisor provides direct supervision of administrative and technical staff, including scheduling, training, performance evaluations, and goal-setting. The role ensures alignment with departmental priorities and fosters a team environment focused on accuracy, efficiency, and continuous improvement. With responsibility for the orientation and development of staff, the supervisor plays a critical role in maintaining a high-performing collections unit that supports the overall success of Library Services.
