Digitization
Digitization is responsible for digitization of collections in a wide range of formats. Enables appropriate management and stewardship of digital objects to promote accessibility that meet continually evolving standards and specifications for imaging and related metadata creation. May include contributions to overall digitization strategy and policies.
Management / Leadership
Manager: The positions work is achieved through the direction of others. Managers have direct accountability for setting goals and using resources. They are responsible for administrative oversight of individuals, including conducting recommendations for hiring and termination, writing evaluations, disciplinary actions, day-to-day oversight as well as long-term goal setting and accountability for the performance and productivity of the employees. Managerial positions are reflected in the M1-M3 career track levels in the management/leadership track.
Level 3
Director: Directs and controls the activities of multiple university units or leads a team of professionals with significant university wide impact. Typically has indirect reports. In charge of overall control of planning, staffing, budgeting, etc. for the unit. Collaborates with executive leadership on establishing strategic goals across the function.

Position Summary

The General Director of Digitization within Library Services plays a critical leadership role in shaping and executing the strategic direction of digitization initiatives across the institution. This position directs the digitization of diverse library collections to ensure the effective preservation, accessibility, and integration of digital content into academic teaching, research, and learning environments. The Director ensures that imaging standards and metadata creation processes meet evolving best practices and technological advancements, contributing to the development and refinement of the library’s overall digitization strategy and related policies. As a senior-level manager, the Director oversees multiple units or teams of professionals involved in the digitization lifecycle, including scanning, metadata production, quality assurance, and digital asset management. The role requires setting goals, allocating resources, and providing day-to-day and long-term oversight of staff performance, while also being responsible for hiring decisions, performance evaluations, and strategic staffing plans. The Director ensures that digitization activities align with institutional priorities and library service goals, promoting the stewardship and accessibility of digital objects to a wide array of users. Operating at a university-wide level, the Director collaborates with executive leadership, faculty, IT, and other stakeholders to establish and advance strategic initiatives in digital preservation and access. The position carries significant accountability for planning, budgeting, and policy development related to digitization within Library Services. Through this leadership, the Director helps shape the future of digital scholarship and knowledge access, ensuring that digitized collections are discoverable, sustainable, and responsive to the dynamic needs of the academic community.
