Library Services develops and manages access, organization, and acquisition of library collections and specialized information systems to enhance academic teaching, learning, and research.
Management / Leadership
Manager: The positions work is achieved through the direction of others. Managers have direct accountability for setting goals and using resources. They are responsible for administrative oversight of individuals, including conducting recommendations for hiring and termination, writing evaluations, disciplinary actions, day-to-day oversight as well as long-term goal setting and accountability for the performance and productivity of the employees. Managerial positions are reflected in the M1-M3 career track levels in the management/leadership track.
Level 1
Supervisor: Supervises experienced administrative, operative, and/or technical roles. Coordinates schedules and workflow for the team. Focuses on team completion of assignments and is responsible for ensuring the orientation and training of employees.

Position Summary

The General Supervisor within Library Services plays a critical role in overseeing daily operations, ensuring the smooth functioning of library services, and managing a team of administrative, technical, and operational staff. This position is responsible for coordinating work schedules, task assignments, and workflows, ensuring that staff efficiently meet operational goals while maintaining a high level of service. The Supervisor acts as a key point of contact within the department, facilitating communication between teams, and ensuring that library resources are accessible and organized to support academic research and learning. In addition to day-to-day oversight, the General Supervisor is responsible for the orientation and training of new employees, helping them integrate into the team and understand their roles and responsibilities. They provide guidance, mentorship, and performance feedback to staff members, supporting their professional development. The Supervisor plays a key role in setting clear expectations for team members, ensuring that tasks are completed on time and to the required standard, and providing recommendations for improvements where needed. Their leadership ensures the team is motivated, efficient, and aligned with library objectives. The General Supervisor reports directly to higher management and contributes to the overall success of Library Services by managing resources effectively and ensuring that staff is well-equipped and trained. This position requires a strong understanding of library operations, excellent communication and leadership skills, and the ability to balance multiple priorities. By fostering a collaborative and productive work environment, the General Supervisor helps to maintain the library’s effectiveness and contribute to the broader mission of supporting academic teaching, learning, and research at the institution.
