Counseling and Mental Health is responsible for assessing, diagnosing, and treating mental, behavioral and emotional problems and disorders. Through discussion of emotions and experiences, uses evidence-based counseling techniques to help patients dealing with issues that affect their mental health and well-being. Helps patients come up with goals and plan action.

Position Summary

The Academic Coordinator in Counseling and Mental Health supports student well-being by coordinating programs, services, and resources that promote mental health awareness and access to care. Positioned within Student Services and aligned with the mission of Health Care Services, this role plays a vital part in the university’s efforts to support students' academic and personal development through proactive mental health initiatives. The coordinator assists in the implementation of campus-wide mental health outreach, education, and prevention efforts, helping to normalize conversations around emotional well-being and reduce barriers to seeking help. Working as an individual contributor, the Academic Coordinator collaborates closely with licensed mental health professionals, student affairs staff, and academic departments to support the planning and delivery of services that address students’ emotional and behavioral health needs. This role helps coordinate care transitions, referrals, and case management functions, ensuring continuity of services and providing timely support to students facing challenges. The coordinator may also facilitate workshops and training sessions that promote mental wellness, resiliency, and stress management strategies. With a student-facing focus, the Academic Coordinator serves as a key resource for connecting students with counseling services and appropriate support mechanisms across campus. Although not functioning as a direct clinician, the coordinator must possess a foundational understanding of mental health principles, excellent communication skills, and the ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism. Operating with moderate autonomy, the position supports the day-to-day success of mental health programs while contributing to the university's broader goals of fostering a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
