Academic Advising provides advising, planning, and support services to students to ensure their academic, personal and professional success. Advises students concerning an appropriate academic schedule and course selection, choice of major, minor, degree and graduation requirements, interpretation of department, college and university requirements, career exploration, and other related matters.
Executive
Executive: The positions work is achieved through the strategic direction of the organization as a whole. Executives have direct accountability for setting strategic goals and using resources. They are responsible for administrative oversight of a senior management area or other business unit with a universitywide scope of impact. These positions contribute to the highest-level panels and teams. The decisions made under the purview of the executive positions duties must routinely have direct impact on success across the university and impact the overall development of the university. Executive positions are reflected in the E1-E3 career track levels in the management/leadership track.
Level 1
Associate Executive: Accountable for annual execution of goals and objectives in area of responsibility; disseminates goals to direct reports and ensures goals are operationalized. Recommends and may approve policy for area of operational and/or functional control. Typically has multiple directors and managers as direct reports. Scope of responsibility is a university wide sub-function with multiple disciplines, or multiple functions within a college or business unit.

Position Summary

The Associate Academic Executive in Academic Advising plays a critical role in shaping and implementing the strategic direction of academic advising services within the university. This position holds accountability for ensuring the successful execution of advising and student support programs, with a focus on student success, retention, and degree completion. The Associate Executive will oversee the development and implementation of advising strategies that address academic planning, course selection, career exploration, and other student needs, while aligning with the institution’s mission and broader student services objectives. They collaborate with senior leadership to establish the overall vision for academic advising and ensure that goals are met within the designated timeframes. In this executive capacity, the Associate Academic Executive leads multiple teams within the academic advising function. They are responsible for ensuring that academic advisors are equipped with the resources, training, and guidance necessary to support students in their academic and career pursuits. Additionally, the role involves overseeing the development of policies and procedures related to advising practices, and making data-driven decisions to enhance the quality and effectiveness of academic advising programs. The Associate Executive will also be responsible for monitoring performance, providing ongoing evaluations of the advising services, and implementing improvements based on feedback from students, faculty, and other stakeholders. This position has a broad scope of responsibility, impacting various aspects of the academic advising function across the university. The Associate Academic Executive works closely with directors, managers, and other senior leaders to implement strategies and ensure continuous improvement in the advising process. They play a key role in establishing departmental priorities, allocating resources, and coordinating efforts across disciplines to meet the academic and professional needs of students. Ultimately, this role ensures that academic advising is integrated into the overall student experience, providing essential support for students in achieving their academic goals and preparing for future careers.
