Academic Advising provides advising, planning, and support services to students to ensure their academic, personal and professional success. Advises students concerning an appropriate academic schedule and course selection, choice of major, minor, degree and graduation requirements, interpretation of department, college and university requirements, career exploration, and other related matters.

Position Summary

The Associate Academic Coordinator within Academic Advising plays a vital role in supporting students’ academic journeys by providing guidance, planning, and advising services to help them achieve academic, personal, and professional success. This position is responsible for assisting students with course selection, understanding degree requirements, and choosing appropriate majors, minors, and career paths. The Associate Academic Coordinator educates students in self-reflection and decision-making, helping them identify their skills and interests while providing insight into available academic opportunities. As an individual contributor, the Associate Academic Coordinator will work closely with students to address their academic needs, provide guidance on academic schedules, and support students in navigating university requirements. This role requires proficiency in interpreting academic policies and degree programs, while also assisting students with career exploration and developing long-term academic goals. The position also involves advising students on challenges they may face in their academic progress, offering solutions, and referring them to other appropriate student services when necessary. In addition to direct student advising, the Associate Academic Coordinator will collaborate with other advising staff, faculty, and university departments to enhance the student experience. This role may also involve conducting workshops, orientations, and one-on-one sessions designed to improve students’ academic skills, increase engagement, and foster a sense of community within the university. The Associate Academic Coordinator will use data to monitor student progress and contribute to efforts aimed at improving student retention and success, ensuring that academic advising services are aligned with student needs and institutional goals.
