Academic Advising provides advising, planning, and support services to students to ensure their academic, personal and professional success. Advises students concerning an appropriate academic schedule and course selection, choice of major, minor, degree and graduation requirements, interpretation of department, college and university requirements, career exploration, and other related matters.

Manager: The positions work is achieved through the direction of others. Managers have direct accountability for setting goals and using resources. They are responsible for administrative oversight of individuals, including conducting recommendations for hiring and termination, writing evaluations, disciplinary actions, day-to-day oversight as well as long-term goal setting and accountability for the performance and productivity of the employees. Managerial positions are reflected in the M1-M3 career track levels in the management/leadership track.

Position Summary

The Academic Manager in Academic Advising plays a critical role in overseeing the daily operations and strategic direction of the academic advising team. This position is responsible for managing a team of academic advisors who provide essential services to students, ensuring their academic, personal, and professional success. The Academic Manager develops and implements advising strategies, oversees advising activities, and ensures that all team members are adequately trained to assist students with course selection, degree requirements, career exploration, and other academic needs. The manager also collaborates with other departments to align advising practices with university goals and initiatives. In addition to overseeing the advising team, the Academic Manager is responsible for setting goals and objectives for the department and ensuring that these goals are met. They monitor advising metrics, including student satisfaction, retention, and graduation rates, and adjust strategies to improve these outcomes. This role also involves providing regular feedback and performance evaluations for the advising staff, ensuring that they have the support they need to provide high-quality advising services. The Academic Manager serves as a key resource for both advisors and students, addressing any challenges that arise during the advising process and helping to maintain a positive and supportive advising environment. The Academic Manager ensures that academic advising services are aligned with institutional policies and practices. They are responsible for developing and implementing training programs to ensure that the advising team remains informed about changes to academic programs, degree requirements, and advising practices. The manager also plays a key role in fostering professional development within the team, encouraging advisors to stay current with trends in student success and academic advising. By effectively managing the advising team and ensuring high standards of service, the Academic Manager directly contributes to enhancing the overall student experience and supporting academic achievement across the institution.
