Student Advising provides planning, advising, and support services to students to ensure their academic, personal, and professional success. Educates students in self-reflection, identifying their options for majors and careers, and to communicate skills and interests through written methods and interpersonally.
Management / Leadership
Manager: The positions work is achieved through the direction of others. Managers have direct accountability for setting goals and using resources. They are responsible for administrative oversight of individuals, including conducting recommendations for hiring and termination, writing evaluations, disciplinary actions, day-to-day oversight as well as long-term goal setting and accountability for the performance and productivity of the employees. Managerial positions are reflected in the M1-M3 career track levels in the management/leadership track.
Level 1
Supervisor: Supervises experienced administrative, operative, and/or technical roles. Coordinates schedules and workflow for the team. Focuses on team completion of assignments and is responsible for ensuring the orientation and training of employees.

Position Summary

The Academic Supervisor within Student Advising provides oversight and coordination of advising services to ensure students receive high-quality academic support that fosters their educational, personal, and professional development. This position leads a team of advising professionals, ensuring that advising practices align with institutional goals and support students in navigating academic requirements, identifying career pathways, and developing decision-making and self-reflection skills. In this role, the supervisor manages the day-to-day operations of advising services, including assigning caseloads, coordinating schedules, and supporting team development through training, feedback, and performance evaluations. The supervisor also assists in implementing strategic advising initiatives and may engage in student-facing advising during peak periods. A key responsibility is maintaining consistent service delivery while ensuring that advising staff are well-prepared to meet the evolving needs of a diverse student population. Working collaboratively with faculty, student services, and academic units, the Academic Supervisor supports a holistic advising model that encourages student engagement and retention. This role also contributes to continuous improvement efforts through data collection, analysis, and reporting on advising outcomes, ultimately playing a critical role in helping students succeed throughout their academic journey.
