Promotes and provides co-curricular opportunities, services and resources that have development outcomes that are purposeful and prepare students to live healthy, productive and fulfilling lives. Deliver the programs, services, facilities and administrative functions that facilitate the co-curricular environment of a college or university and enhance the educational experiences of its students toward their self-exploration, learning and development.

Manager: The positions work is achieved through the direction of others. Managers have direct accountability for setting goals and using resources. They are responsible for administrative oversight of individuals, including conducting recommendations for hiring and termination, writing evaluations, disciplinary actions, day-to-day oversight as well as long-term goal setting and accountability for the performance and productivity of the employees. Managerial positions are reflected in the M1-M3 career track levels in the management/leadership track.

Director: Directs and controls the activities of multiple university units or leads a team of professionals with significant university wide impact. Typically has indirect reports. In charge of overall control of planning, staffing, budgeting, etc. for the unit. Collaborates with executive leadership on establishing strategic goals across the function.

Position Summary

The Academic Director within Student Affairs provides strategic leadership and oversight for student-focused programs and services that foster personal growth, academic achievement, and lifelong success. This role is responsible for directing the delivery of co-curricular experiences and student support initiatives that align with the university’s mission to enhance student learning, well-being, and development outside the classroom. The director ensures that programs reflect institutional values and support an inclusive, engaging campus community. In this capacity, the director oversees multiple student service units and leads a team of professionals responsible for areas such as student engagement, wellness, advocacy, and support. The position manages the planning, staffing, and budgeting for these units, setting long-term goals and assessing progress toward strategic outcomes. The director ensures that staff have the tools and training needed to deliver impactful programs, while also developing policies and procedures to support effective operations and compliance with university standards. Collaborating with executive leadership and campus partners, the director contributes to the development and implementation of institution-wide strategies that support student success and retention. This position plays a key role in shaping the student experience by building partnerships across academic and administrative units, promoting student voice in decision-making, and championing innovation in student affairs. Through data-informed leadership, the director continuously evaluates program effectiveness and leads initiatives that prepare students to thrive academically, socially, and professionally.
