General Supervisor, Student Services

Student Services
Student Services is responsible for the management and administration of work in multiple student services specialties, including but not limited to academic advising, career services, admissions, financial aid, student advocacy and support, health and wellness services, student engagement and development, learning support services, and housing and residential life.
Management / Leadership
Manager: The positions work is achieved through the direction of others. Managers have direct accountability for setting goals and using resources. They are responsible for administrative oversight of individuals, including conducting recommendations for hiring and termination, writing evaluations, disciplinary actions, day-to-day oversight as well as long-term goal setting and accountability for the performance and productivity of the employees. Managerial positions are reflected in the M1-M3 career track levels in the management/leadership track.
Level 1
Supervisor: Supervises experienced administrative, operative, and/or technical roles. Coordinates schedules and workflow for the team. Focuses on team completion of assignments and is responsible for ensuring the orientation and training of employees.

Position Summary

The General Supervisor within Student Services is a professional managerial role responsible for overseeing administrative and operational functions that support the delivery of high-quality student services. Operating within the General Administration track, this position supervises staff involved in non-student-facing roles across various student service areas such as admissions processing, financial aid operations, housing administration, and program coordination. The supervisor ensures that backend support functions run efficiently and align with institutional goals and compliance standards. In this Level 1 supervisory role, the General Supervisor is accountable for the day-to-day coordination of team workflows, schedules, and task assignments. They lead a team of experienced administrative or technical professionals, providing ongoing guidance, performance feedback, and direction. This role includes responsibilities such as staff training and orientation, ensuring adherence to policies and procedures, and facilitating continuous improvement within operational processes. The supervisor also plays a key role in evaluating team performance and making recommendations related to hiring, promotions, and corrective actions. By promoting an organized, collaborative, and goal-oriented work environment, the General Supervisor supports the broader mission of Student Services in fostering student success. This position ensures that operational teams are well-equipped to support the administrative demands of student-centered services, allowing front-line staff to focus on direct engagement. Through effective leadership and resource coordination, the General Supervisor contributes to a seamless, efficient, and student-supportive infrastructure across the university.
