Entomology studies insects and their relationships to humans, the environment, and other organisms. Provides state-of-the-art research on insects, their integral roles in ecosystems, and their effective management to support human health, local and global economies, and sustainable food and water supplies.
Management / Leadership
Manager: The positions work is achieved through the direction of others. Managers have direct accountability for setting goals and using resources. They are responsible for administrative oversight of individuals, including conducting recommendations for hiring and termination, writing evaluations, disciplinary actions, day-to-day oversight as well as long-term goal setting and accountability for the performance and productivity of the employees. Managerial positions are reflected in the M1-M3 career track levels in the management/leadership track.

Director: Directs and controls the activities of multiple university units or leads a team of professionals with significant university wide impact. Typically has indirect reports. In charge of overall control of planning, staffing, budgeting, etc. for the unit. Collaborates with executive leadership on establishing strategic goals across the function.

Position Summary

The General Director for Entomology leads the strategic planning, operational management, and overall direction of the entomology department, ensuring alignment with institutional goals and priorities. This position oversees multiple units and programs dedicated to advancing insect research, education, and sustainable management practices that benefit ecosystems, agriculture, and human health. The director collaborates with executive leadership to develop and implement long-term strategies, manage resources effectively, and foster innovative approaches to address global challenges in food security and environmental sustainability. In this leadership role, the General Director is responsible for setting departmental goals, overseeing staffing and budgeting, and ensuring the successful execution of key initiatives. The position also involves guiding research efforts, building interdisciplinary collaborations, and expanding community outreach programs to amplify the department's impact locally and globally. By fostering a culture of excellence and innovation, the General Director plays a critical role in advancing entomological sciences and their applications for the benefit of society and the environment.
