Position Summary

The General Coordinator within Construction at Virginia Tech plays a crucial role in supporting the successful planning and execution of various construction projects across the university. Working within the Campus Operations department, this position is responsible for assisting in the coordination of residential, commercial, and industrial building or renovation projects from the initial stages through to completion. The General Coordinator supports the creation of project timelines, assigns tasks to team members, and helps ensure that projects are completed in alignment with university standards and goals. The position requires the individual to work closely with construction teams, contractors, and subcontractors, ensuring that all parties are on track and adhering to the project schedule and budget. While the role may not require independent decision-making at the highest level, the General Coordinator is expected to have a solid understanding of construction processes and provide support in overseeing day-to-day project operations. This includes monitoring progress, managing documentation, and communicating with various stakeholders to ensure timely resolution of issues or delays. The General Coordinator also helps ensure that the project’s goals are met within established guidelines, assisting in the selection and management of contractors and sub-contractors to complete specific tasks or phases of the project. This position contributes to maintaining the flow of work, providing necessary information to project managers and teams, and ensuring that any challenges are addressed in a timely manner. The General Coordinator plays an important supporting role in the overall success of construction initiatives, directly contributing to the efficient and effective development of Virginia Tech's physical spaces.
