Senior General Coordinator, Construction

Position Summary

The Senior General Coordinator within Construction at Virginia Tech plays a pivotal role in overseeing and supporting complex residential, commercial, and industrial construction projects from initiation to completion. This position is key in ensuring that construction activities align with university objectives, timelines, and budget requirements. With an elevated level of experience and expertise, the Senior General Coordinator works independently and takes a leadership role in the coordination of construction teams, contractors, and subcontractors. They assist in the creation of detailed project plans, schedules, and timelines, while also overseeing the execution of tasks to ensure seamless operations across all phases of the construction process. The Senior General Coordinator is responsible for managing and assigning work to various team members, ensuring that projects are progressing according to schedule. This role requires proactive problem-solving and decision-making to address any issues or delays that arise during the construction process. The position involves significant collaboration with multiple stakeholders, including university staff, construction teams, and external contractors, ensuring effective communication and coordination across all involved parties. In addition to project coordination, the Senior General Coordinator is responsible for monitoring and maintaining quality control, managing project documentation, and ensuring compliance with university standards and safety protocols. This position requires a high degree of autonomy, as the Senior General Coordinator takes the initiative in managing resources, resolving conflicts, and ensuring the successful delivery of construction projects. By providing guidance and support to the construction team, the Senior General Coordinator contributes directly to the successful development and improvement of Virginia Tech’s physical spaces.
