Campus Planning defines the land use, urban design, open space, density, and circulation networks as a comprehensive and planned system. Develop planning and urban design guidelines, evaluate land use and siting decisions, establish parameters for campus development sites.
Executive
Executive: The positions work is achieved through the strategic direction of the organization as a whole. Executives have direct accountability for setting strategic goals and using resources. They are responsible for administrative oversight of a senior management area or other business unit with a universitywide scope of impact. These positions contribute to the highest-level panels and teams. The decisions made under the purview of the executive positions duties must routinely have direct impact on success across the university and impact the overall development of the university. Executive positions are reflected in the E1-E3 career track levels in the management/leadership track.
Level 1
Associate Executive: Accountable for annual execution of goals and objectives in area of responsibility; disseminates goals to direct reports and ensures goals are operationalized. Recommends and may approve policy for area of operational and/or functional control. Typically has multiple directors and managers as direct reports. Scope of responsibility is a university wide sub-function with multiple disciplines, or multiple functions within a college or business unit.

Position Summary

The Associate General Executive within Campus Planning holds a pivotal leadership role, responsible for directing the strategic execution of campus planning initiatives at Virginia Tech. This position plays a key role in shaping the university’s physical environment by defining land use, urban design, open space, density, and circulation networks in alignment with the institution's long-term goals. The Associate Executive will ensure that campus planning efforts support the university’s academic, research, and community objectives while fostering a sustainable and accessible campus environment. In this executive role, the Associate General Executive will manage the development and implementation of planning guidelines, oversee site evaluations, and make critical decisions regarding campus land use and development projects. They will collaborate closely with senior leadership to develop policies and strategies that address the evolving needs of the university, balancing growth, sustainability, and the effective use of space. The position is also responsible for disseminating annual goals and ensuring their successful execution across multiple teams, with a direct impact on the future physical and functional evolution of the university campus. The Associate General Executive will provide leadership and oversight to directors and managers within Campus Planning, ensuring that planning initiatives are operationalized efficiently and effectively. They will play a key role in setting the strategic direction for campus development, advising on urban design and space planning, and ensuring that the university’s physical environment aligns with its mission. Through this role, the Associate Executive will make decisions that have a significant and lasting impact on the success of Virginia Tech, contributing to the overall development and growth of the institution’s infrastructure and campus resources.
