Campus Planning defines the land use, urban design, open space, density, and circulation networks as a comprehensive and planned system. Develop planning and urban design guidelines, evaluate land use and siting decisions, establish parameters for campus development sites.
Executive
Executive: The positions work is achieved through the strategic direction of the organization as a whole. Executives have direct accountability for setting strategic goals and using resources. They are responsible for administrative oversight of a senior management area or other business unit with a universitywide scope of impact. These positions contribute to the highest-level panels and teams. The decisions made under the purview of the executive positions duties must routinely have direct impact on success across the university and impact the overall development of the university. Executive positions are reflected in the E1-E3 career track levels in the management/leadership track.
Level 1
Associate Executive: Accountable for annual execution of goals and objectives in area of responsibility; disseminates goals to direct reports and ensures goals are operationalized. Recommends and may approve policy for area of operational and/or functional control. Typically has multiple directors and managers as direct reports. Scope of responsibility is a university wide sub-function with multiple disciplines, or multiple functions within a college or business unit.

Position Summary

The Associate Technical Executive within Campus Planning plays a key leadership role in overseeing the strategic and operational aspects of technical initiatives related to the development and management of the university's physical spaces. In this executive-level position, the Associate Technical Executive is responsible for setting and executing the annual goals and objectives of the campus planning technical function, ensuring alignment with broader campus operations and Virginia Tech's long-term growth and sustainability goals. This role focuses on the strategic direction and resource management across campus planning technical areas, particularly those involving land use, urban design, and campus infrastructure. The Associate Technical Executive is accountable for developing and operationalizing policies related to campus planning's technical functions, including the integration of urban design guidelines, land use decisions, and the evaluation of siting parameters for campus development. This position collaborates with senior leadership and key stakeholders across the university to ensure the successful execution of planning and design strategies, while also driving the development and implementation of technological innovations in campus infrastructure. As an Associate Executive, the position typically oversees multiple directors, managers, and technical professionals. This includes managing teams responsible for technical planning, design, and implementation. The Associate Technical Executive will make critical decisions that have university-wide impacts, contributing to the success of Virginia Tech’s campus operations and the overall development of the university. Their responsibilities also include recommending and approving policies and ensuring that campus planning and technical initiatives support the university's mission, strategic goals, and resource management objectives.
