Engineering Services provides technical support for mechanical and electrical building and infrastructure systems and equipment. May design mechanical and electrical engineering systems, size and specify equipment, prepare engineering calculations and studies, create design documents, and certify them for construction.

Position Summary

The Associate Analyst within Engineering Services at Virginia Tech plays a key role in supporting the technical operations of mechanical and electrical building and infrastructure systems. In this entry-level, individual contributor position, the Associate Analyst works closely with the engineering team to assist with designing mechanical and electrical systems, as well as sizing and specifying equipment for university buildings and facilities. The role involves preparing engineering calculations, studies, and design documents, ensuring they align with established standards and specifications. The Associate Analyst supports the engineering services function by contributing to the preparation of documents required for construction certification. This includes reviewing technical designs, analyzing data, and ensuring compliance with university and industry regulations. While the position requires limited experience and education, the role offers opportunities for professional development, with the expectation that the individual will become proficient in technical processes and contribute effectively to the team. In addition to technical duties, the Associate Analyst assists in coordinating and reviewing the work of others, providing valuable support in the successful execution of engineering projects. The role is integral to the efficient operation and maintenance of Virginia Tech's physical environment, working to ensure that the university's engineering systems meet the needs of its campus. The Associate Analyst reports to more senior engineers or managers and is expected to collaborate with other departments to ensure that engineering services contribute to the overall success of the university’s facilities.
