Engineering Services provides technical support for mechanical and electrical building and infrastructure systems and equipment. May design mechanical and electrical engineering systems, size and specify equipment, prepare engineering calculations and studies, create design documents, and certify them for construction.

Position Summary

The Analyst within Engineering Services at Virginia Tech plays a vital role in supporting the technical aspects of mechanical and electrical building systems. As an intermediate-level position, the Analyst contributes to the design, installation, and maintenance of systems that support the university’s infrastructure. This role involves assisting in the preparation of engineering calculations, studies, and design documents, ensuring that they adhere to university and industry standards. The Analyst works under the guidance of senior engineers and managers, assisting in the sizing and specification of equipment and helping to ensure that mechanical and electrical systems are optimized for efficiency and safety. While the position requires some experience and education, it is not expected to act independently, as the Analyst will rely on supervision and collaboration with more experienced professionals in the department. The role also involves supporting the creation and certification of documents required for construction, contributing to the operational success of engineering projects on campus. In addition to technical responsibilities, the Analyst may be involved in reviewing and coordinating the work of other team members, ensuring that projects are completed in a timely and efficient manner. The Analyst is expected to contribute to the broader engineering services team by providing valuable technical insights and ensuring that all activities align with the overall goals of the Facilities and Campus Operations departments. The position supports the university's mission of maintaining a safe, sustainable, and well-maintained physical environment for all students, faculty, and staff.
