Facilities Management is responsible for coordinating multiple disciplines to ensure optimal operation and maintenance of the buildings, grounds, and facilities of the institution. Responsibilities typically span across construction, remodeling, renovation, and maintenance. Duties may require the incumbent to estimate cost of projects, write contracts, negotiate, and secure bids from contractors, and determine labor, materials, and equipment needed to complete projects.

Position Summary

The Senior General Coordinator within Engineering Services at Virginia Tech plays a key role in overseeing and coordinating the operational aspects of facilities management, ensuring the effective and efficient maintenance and development of the university’s buildings, grounds, and infrastructure. This position supports the strategic goals of Campus Operations by managing the planning, design, installation, and maintenance of essential mechanical and electrical systems that service the university's facilities. The Senior General Coordinator is responsible for executing complex tasks related to construction, remodeling, renovation, and maintenance projects, including estimating project costs, writing contracts, negotiating with contractors, and securing bids for various projects. The role requires thorough knowledge of engineering systems and a deep understanding of facility operations, ensuring that all systems are functioning optimally while maintaining the quality and safety standards expected of the university. This position requires a high level of autonomy, with the Senior General Coordinator acting independently to lead specific projects and initiatives within the engineering services domain. They collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure that engineering services align with university needs, ensuring that systems and facilities are safe, operational, and cost-effective. Additionally, the Senior General Coordinator may provide leadership and guidance to junior coordinators or team members, supporting them in their tasks and fostering a collaborative environment for solving complex facility issues. Through their work, the Senior General Coordinator contributes to the overall operational success of Facilities Management, impacting the long-term sustainability and development of the university's physical environment. This role requires a balance of technical expertise, leadership, and communication skills to ensure the successful completion of high-impact projects that enhance the university’s campus infrastructure.
