General Director, Accounting

Accounting
Accounting properly records the organizations financial transactions, assets, liabilities, revenue, and expenses in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). Maintains and reconciles general ledger accounts. Significant emphasis on creation of financial statements such as balance sheets, income statements, and cash flows with the corresponding supporting schedules. Provides financial and operational reports and analytics and may act as subject matter expert for system implementations.
Management / Leadership
Manager: The positions work is achieved through the direction of others. Managers have direct accountability for setting goals and using resources. They are responsible for administrative oversight of individuals, including conducting recommendations for hiring and termination, writing evaluations, disciplinary actions, day-to-day oversight as well as long-term goal setting and accountability for the performance and productivity of the employees. Managerial positions are reflected in the M1-M3 career track levels in the management/leadership track.
Level 3
Director: Directs and controls the activities of multiple university units or leads a team of professionals with significant university wide impact. Typically has indirect reports. In charge of overall control of planning, staffing, budgeting, etc. for the unit. Collaborates with executive leadership on establishing strategic goals across the function.

The General Director within Accounting plays a pivotal role in overseeing and directing the financial activities of the university's accounting function, ensuring the accurate and compliant management of the institution's financial records. This position involves strategic leadership and high-level oversight of multiple units within the accounting department, including financial reporting, general ledger reconciliation, budgeting, and forecasting processes. The Director is responsible for setting long-term financial goals and objectives for the unit, collaborating closely with executive leadership to align departmental strategies with the university’s broader financial and institutional goals. In this capacity, the General Director ensures compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and provides comprehensive financial analysis and reports. The role requires expertise in managing complex financial systems, advising on financial decision-making, and driving improvements in the university’s accounting practices. The Director will lead a team of professionals, overseeing staffing, performance management, and resource allocation, and will be involved in high-level decision-making processes such as budgeting, financial planning, and policy implementation. The General Director also represents the accounting function in university-wide meetings, providing valuable insight into financial strategies and organizational objectives. The position demands a combination of strong leadership, in-depth accounting knowledge, and the ability to influence strategic initiatives that impact the university’s financial health. The General Director works with a high degree of autonomy, providing mentorship and guidance to senior staff and ensuring that the accounting function supports the university’s mission and long-term success.
