Recruiting and Retention sources, recruits, screens, interviews, and recommends internal and external candidates for positions at all levels. Places employment ads in appropriate sources, ensures the maintenance of accurate and concise records, and reports concerning all phases of the recruitment process.
Management / Leadership
Manager: The positions work is achieved through the direction of others. Managers have direct accountability for setting goals and using resources. They are responsible for administrative oversight of individuals, including conducting recommendations for hiring and termination, writing evaluations, disciplinary actions, day-to-day oversight as well as long-term goal setting and accountability for the performance and productivity of the employees. Managerial positions are reflected in the M1-M3 career track levels in the management/leadership track.
Level 3
Director: Directs and controls the activities of multiple university units or leads a team of professionals with significant university wide impact. Typically has indirect reports. In charge of overall control of planning, staffing, budgeting, etc. for the unit. Collaborates with executive leadership on establishing strategic goals across the function.

Position Summary

The General Director of Recruiting and Retention provides strategic leadership and oversight of the university’s comprehensive talent acquisition and retention programs. This position is responsible for directing recruitment strategies that align with institutional goals to attract and retain a diverse and highly qualified workforce. The Director oversees sourcing, screening, interviewing, and candidate selection processes across all levels of employment, ensuring compliance with university policies and applicable laws. The role also guides the development and placement of employment advertising and promotes consistency, efficiency, and equity throughout the hiring lifecycle. As a senior leader in Human Resources, the Director works collaboratively with executive leadership, HR partners, and hiring managers across campus to assess workforce needs and implement best practices in recruiting and employee retention. The Director develops long-term strategies to enhance the university's employer brand and improve candidate engagement and employee satisfaction. This includes identifying innovative recruitment channels, refining retention strategies, and leveraging data and analytics to inform decision-making. The Director ensures the integrity of recruitment and retention data and reporting while also maintaining the necessary infrastructure for efficient operations. With university-wide impact, the General Director of Recruiting and Retention plays a critical role in workforce planning and talent development, supporting the broader institutional mission of academic and operational excellence. The position manages the department’s staffing, budgeting, and strategic planning, and fosters a culture of collaboration, inclusivity, and continuous improvement. Through strong leadership and thoughtful engagement, the Director ensures that the university continues to attract, support, and retain top-tier talent essential to its success.
