IT Support provides technical support to faculty, staff, students, and university stakeholders for a range of hardware and software related information technology systems. Diagnoses user problems and responds to problems, queries, or complaints from users.

Manager: The positions work is achieved through the direction of others. Managers have direct accountability for setting goals and using resources. They are responsible for administrative oversight of individuals, including conducting recommendations for hiring and termination, writing evaluations, disciplinary actions, day-to-day oversight as well as long-term goal setting and accountability for the performance and productivity of the employees. Managerial positions are reflected in the M1-M3 career track levels in the management/leadership track.
Level 1
Supervisor: Supervises experienced administrative, operative, and/or technical roles. Coordinates schedules and workflow for the team. Focuses on team completion of assignments and is responsible for ensuring the orientation and training of employees.
T - Technical/STEM
Technical roles, including technology and research.

Position Summary

The Technical Supervisor within IT Support is responsible for leading a team of IT professionals who provide technical assistance to faculty, staff, students, and university stakeholders. This position requires oversight of the daily operations of the IT Support team, ensuring that hardware and software issues are addressed promptly and efficiently. The supervisor coordinates schedules, manages workloads, and ensures the team meets service level expectations, fostering an environment that encourages effective collaboration and high-quality support. In addition to day-to-day management, the Technical Supervisor plays a key role in the development and training of the team. They ensure that team members are well-equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to resolve complex technical issues, providing guidance and mentorship as needed. The supervisor also manages performance, conducts evaluations, and is responsible for employee orientation, ensuring that the team is consistently operating at a high level of proficiency. They are integral in fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement within the IT Support department. As a leader, the Technical Supervisor is accountable for aligning team efforts with broader IT objectives and departmental goals. They work closely with senior management to define priorities and implement strategies for optimizing IT support services. By handling administrative responsibilities, such as performance management and resource allocation, the supervisor ensures that the team remains effective and motivated, ultimately contributing to the overall success of the IT Support function and the university’s technology infrastructure.
