Technical Supervisor, Network Engineering

Position Summary

The Technical Supervisor within Network Engineering is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the network engineering team, ensuring the efficient design, implementation, and maintenance of the university's network infrastructure. This role involves coordinating schedules and workflow for network engineers and technicians, ensuring that tasks are completed on time and align with university-wide technology objectives. The Technical Supervisor provides guidance to the team, helping them troubleshoot complex network issues, implement upgrades, and maintain network performance across a range of systems, including switches, routers, firewalls, and cloud-based services. In this supervisory role, the Technical Supervisor ensures that team members are properly trained and oriented to their responsibilities. They are responsible for overseeing the performance of the team, conducting performance evaluations, and supporting professional development. The supervisor works closely with senior leadership to ensure that network engineering activities are aligned with institutional priorities, contributing to the development of strategies to enhance network infrastructure. The Technical Supervisor also plays a key role in managing the successful completion of projects and initiatives, ensuring that network improvements are delivered efficiently and meet quality standards. The Technical Supervisor within Network Engineering serves as a key point of contact for resolving escalated technical issues and ensuring that the team has the resources needed to perform their tasks effectively. They are expected to provide leadership and mentorship, offering technical support and guidance to more junior engineers while collaborating with other IT teams to implement solutions that optimize network performance. This role requires a deep understanding of network architecture and engineering principles, as well as strong leadership skills to manage both the technical and operational aspects of the team’s work. Through strategic planning and effective supervision, the Technical Supervisor ensures that the network infrastructure remains robust, secure, and aligned with the evolving needs of the university.
