Technical Supervisor, Network

Network and Telecommunication Services is responsible for the daily administration and management of network and telecommunications components, including network switches, routers, firewalls, proxies, operating systems, infrastructure applications, appliances, and cloud integration. Manages voice, data, and video communication systems throughout the university, analyzing and resolving issues with communication programs.
Management / Leadership
Manager: The positions work is achieved through the direction of others. Managers have direct accountability for setting goals and using resources. They are responsible for administrative oversight of individuals, including conducting recommendations for hiring and termination, writing evaluations, disciplinary actions, day-to-day oversight as well as long-term goal setting and accountability for the performance and productivity of the employees. Managerial positions are reflected in the M1-M3 career track levels in the management/leadership track.
Level 1
Supervisor: Supervises experienced administrative, operative, and/or technical roles. Coordinates schedules and workflow for the team. Focuses on team completion of assignments and is responsible for ensuring the orientation and training of employees.

Position Summary

The Technical Supervisor within Network and Telecommunication Services is responsible for the daily coordination and oversight of technical staff engaged in the administration, maintenance, and support of the university’s network and telecommunications infrastructure. This role ensures the reliable operation of core communication systems, including data networks, voice systems, video conferencing tools, and cloud-based integrations. The supervisor plays a key role in supporting infrastructure stability by guiding troubleshooting efforts and recommending enhancements aligned with evolving technology needs. This position oversees the scheduling and prioritization of work assignments, ensuring efficient team performance and adherence to service level expectations. The supervisor provides direction on the deployment and configuration of hardware such as switches, routers, firewalls, and related systems, while also facilitating documentation and compliance with university IT standards. In addition, the supervisor supports team development by delivering technical training, orienting new staff, and cultivating a collaborative work environment. Working closely with IT leadership and campus partners, the Technical Supervisor helps evaluate network and communication needs and supports the implementation of secure, scalable solutions. The role is pivotal in ensuring high availability and performance of the university’s voice and data systems, contributing directly to operational continuity and the delivery of essential services across the institution.
