Position Summary

The Technical Director of User Interface (UI) Design leads the strategic vision, planning, and implementation of user-centric digital experiences across the university’s software and technology platforms. This role is responsible for ensuring that user interfaces are accessible, intuitive, and aligned with institutional goals, guiding the creation of engaging digital products that meet both user needs and technical standards. The director applies expert knowledge of front-end technologies, user research, and usability principles to drive the development of consistent and impactful user experiences across a variety of platforms and services. In this leadership role, the director manages and mentors a multidisciplinary team of designers, developers, and researchers, overseeing all phases of the UI design process—from discovery and ideation to testing and deployment. The director ensures that UI design standards, design systems, and accessibility requirements are integrated into the development lifecycle, working closely with product teams, developers, and university stakeholders. Through user research, data analysis, and iterative design practices, the director ensures that university interfaces are both functional and user-friendly, enhancing engagement and operational efficiency. The Technical Director is responsible for team performance, resource planning, and budgeting within the user interface design function. This role collaborates with campus units and IT leadership to align UI initiatives with broader university strategies, ensuring consistency and quality across digital touchpoints. By fostering a culture of design excellence, innovation, and inclusivity, the director plays a key role in advancing the university’s commitment to delivering high-quality digital services to students, faculty, staff, and the broader community.
