Position Summary

The General Consultant within the Research division plays a critical advisory role in advancing the university’s research strategy by offering expert guidance and tailored solutions to support research development, administration, and execution. This position provides analytical insight, policy interpretation, and strategic planning support to help faculty, staff, and administrators navigate complex research landscapes. By leveraging institutional knowledge and best practices, the consultant supports efforts to grow research capacity, foster interdisciplinary collaborations, and align proposals and programs with university goals. Operating with a high degree of independence, the General Consultant is responsible for identifying opportunities to improve processes, implement research initiatives, and solve operational challenges across units. This role may involve evaluating current practices, recommending policy changes, advising on compliance with federal and institutional regulations, and helping research teams develop robust project frameworks. The consultant often partners with internal stakeholders to assess needs, design implementation strategies, and facilitate communication among research offices, funding agencies, and academic departments. As an advanced-level individual contributor, the General Consultant brings substantial expertise and judgment to bear on complex issues and may lead cross-functional project teams or mentor colleagues. The role requires a proactive approach to identifying institutional gaps and emerging research trends, positioning the university to be competitive in securing external funding and delivering impactful scholarship. Through strategic consultation and leadership, the consultant plays a key part in strengthening the university’s research infrastructure and long-term success.
