Manager: The positions work is achieved through the direction of others. Managers have direct accountability for setting goals and using resources. They are responsible for administrative oversight of individuals, including conducting recommendations for hiring and termination, writing evaluations, disciplinary actions, day-to-day oversight as well as long-term goal setting and accountability for the performance and productivity of the employees. Managerial positions are reflected in the M1-M3 career track levels in the management/leadership track.
Level 1
Supervisor: Supervises experienced administrative, operative, and/or technical roles. Coordinates schedules and workflow for the team. Focuses on team completion of assignments and is responsible for ensuring the orientation and training of employees.

Position Summary

The General Supervisor within Research is responsible for overseeing a team of administrative and operational staff involved in supporting research programs. This position ensures that the daily operations of research-related activities run smoothly by managing team workflows, coordinating schedules, and monitoring the completion of tasks. The General Supervisor provides leadership and guidance to their team, helping to ensure that all research support activities align with institutional research priorities and goals. They also ensure that research projects have the necessary administrative and operational resources to move forward efficiently. As part of their responsibilities, the General Supervisor is accountable for the orientation, training, and development of staff, ensuring that team members are equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to contribute effectively to the success of research initiatives. They provide day-to-day supervision, monitoring performance, and making recommendations for improvements where necessary. In addition, the General Supervisor is responsible for handling staff evaluations, addressing disciplinary matters, and providing coaching to ensure high levels of team performance and productivity. This supervisory role is essential in maintaining a high level of organization and efficiency within research support teams. While the General Supervisor does not directly manage research programs themselves, they play a crucial role in ensuring that administrative tasks and support functions are executed effectively. Their leadership ensures that the research programs are supported by a well-organized, well-trained team capable of contributing to the university's broader research goals and strategic initiatives.
