Residence Life develops and implements student life programs, services and processes. Oversees day-to-day residence experiences, operations, and functions for students living on campus and in university-owned properties. Develops a student community that is inclusive, academically and socially stimulating, and ensures student well-being and safety.

Manager: The positions work is achieved through the direction of others. Managers have direct accountability for setting goals and using resources. They are responsible for administrative oversight of individuals, including conducting recommendations for hiring and termination, writing evaluations, disciplinary actions, day-to-day oversight as well as long-term goal setting and accountability for the performance and productivity of the employees. Managerial positions are reflected in the M1-M3 career track levels in the management/leadership track.

Director: Directs and controls the activities of multiple university units or leads a team of professionals with significant university wide impact. Typically has indirect reports. In charge of overall control of planning, staffing, budgeting, etc. for the unit. Collaborates with executive leadership on establishing strategic goals across the function.

Position Summary

The Academic Director within Residence Life plays a pivotal role in overseeing and shaping the strategic direction of residence life services within the university. This leadership position is responsible for the overall planning, development, and implementation of programs that foster a vibrant, inclusive, and academically enriching environment for students living on campus and in university-owned properties. The Academic Director ensures that residence life experiences align with the university's broader student services objectives, focusing on enhancing student well-being, academic success, and personal development within the residential community. As a director, this position is responsible for managing the daily operations of residence life and housing, including the implementation of student engagement initiatives, academic support programs, and social and cultural activities. The Academic Director collaborates with other university departments, such as student services and academic affairs, to integrate residence life programming with broader institutional goals. This role also oversees the assessment and continuous improvement of residence life programs, ensuring they meet the diverse needs of the student population while adhering to university policies and safety standards. In addition to operational oversight, the Academic Director leads a team of residence life professionals and staff, providing guidance and strategic leadership to ensure the effective execution of residence life initiatives. This position is accountable for budgeting, staffing, and resource management, ensuring that all residence life functions are well-supported and aligned with the university's mission. The Academic Director also plays a key role in policy development, crisis management, and fostering a culture of inclusivity, safety, and respect within residence life. This position requires close collaboration with senior leadership to establish and monitor strategic goals and objectives for residence life across the institution.
