Residence Life develops and implements student life programs, services and processes. Oversees day-to-day residence experiences, operations, and functions for students living on campus and in university-owned properties. Develops a student community that is inclusive, academically and socially stimulating, and ensures student well-being and safety.
Management / Leadership
Manager: The positions work is achieved through the direction of others. Managers have direct accountability for setting goals and using resources. They are responsible for administrative oversight of individuals, including conducting recommendations for hiring and termination, writing evaluations, disciplinary actions, day-to-day oversight as well as long-term goal setting and accountability for the performance and productivity of the employees. Managerial positions are reflected in the M1-M3 career track levels in the management/leadership track.
Level 1
Supervisor: Supervises experienced administrative, operative, and/or technical roles. Coordinates schedules and workflow for the team. Focuses on team completion of assignments and is responsible for ensuring the orientation and training of employees.

Position Summary

The General Supervisor in Residence Life plays a vital role in fostering a vibrant, safe, and inclusive residential environment that enhances the student experience. This position supports the day-to-day management of campus housing operations and student life programs within residence halls, helping to cultivate a community that promotes academic success, personal development, and student well-being. Working within the Student Services framework, this role emphasizes collaboration with campus partners to deliver programs that align with the university’s student engagement goals. As a Level 1 supervisor within the management/leadership track, this role is responsible for coordinating the schedules and workflow of residence life staff, including professional and paraprofessional team members. The General Supervisor ensures successful onboarding, orientation, and continuous training for team members while overseeing the completion of assignments related to residential programming, student support, and operational needs. This position also supports conflict resolution efforts, safety initiatives, and crisis response within residence halls, working to create a positive and respectful living environment. Operating in the General Administration career family, the General Supervisor demonstrates effective personnel oversight, facilitates communication between student residents and university leadership, and monitors adherence to university housing policies. With a student-centered approach, this role plays a key part in ensuring that Residence Life contributes meaningfully to a well-rounded student experience—academically, socially, and personally—while maintaining operational efficiency and compliance.
